How we helped K1 Protection find itself again. The case of the missing website that needed some SEO help.

We were approached recently to help a local start-up with his new website k1protection.com, which had suddenly completely disappeared from search listings. The mystery deepened when it transpired that, in its place in the Google search results, was what appeared to be a spoof site registered under the domain k1protection.co.uk  – same company name, offering the same services, but with a defunct contact form and dead telephone number.

We transferred the WordPress site over to our own servers and started the investigations.

The first discovery was that the ‘real’ site, k1protection.com had been set to ‘Discourage search engines from indexing this site’ – never a good way to launch a website, but curious as the client was adamant that immediately post launch, it was appearing in Google search results. So, job number one, untick that box!

Next job was to add the website to Google Search Console and submit its sitemap for indexing. We can also track performance from here going forwards. We also installed Google Analytics to further support in the gathering of learnings going forwards.

We followed this by updating the website with a new SEO plugin to support the indexing of pages, and updated the content and meta information on key pages. In addition to this we added a list of focused SEO pages.

Setting up a new GDPR compliant plugin and customising it was next, followed by updating the website and its plugins to the latest secure versions.

Then we wrote this little article with links to K1 Protection to communicate all about its licenced security services.

Of course, there is a whole lot more work to do. This is simply the start of efforts to help recover K1 Protection’s search engine positions and be recognised rightly once more as the rightful website when referring to K1 Protection.

We also gave the client a whole host of advice and steps to take to try and get the spoof site taken down by reporting it to the UK Domain Registry, the Domain Registrar and Web Host. But that’s a whole other blog article in itself!
