Cheddar Gorge

Who are they?

Cheddar Gorge is Britain’s biggest gorge situated among dramatic cliffs rising 450ft to the stunning stalactite caverns. This world-famous site is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, reveals many fascinating stories of our prehistoric ancestors, and is an international centre for caving and rock climbing.

Cheddar Gorge is great day out for families, nature and history lovers, and outdoor adventurers.

The Challenge

Cheddar Gorge is Britain’s biggest gorge with the dramatic cliffs rising 450ft to the stunning stalactite taverns. Their existing website needed to be brought in line with the other websites of the Longleat Enterprises Group – and perhaps more importantly it needed to adapt responsively across desktop, tablet and mobiles devices. All whilst still resonating and appealing to the defined audiences of families, nature and history lovers and outdoor adventurers.

The Solution

Initial usability testing, audience and analytics research helped us to structure the website to be more intuitive and support website goals. The new responsive website design re-enforces and delivers the ‘real’ Cheddar Gorge experience. Feelingpeaky designed and created a digital environment that showcases the awe-inspiring landscape both above and below ground, bringing the creative to life with real, immersive and wondrous imagery whilst ensuring the site was highly focused on driving sales. The website was then built by our development partners We are Lion.

Principles

We wanted the interface to be visually powerful whilst maintaining consistency. The overall results deliver a distinct sense of unity to the website.

It was important for us to communicate this sense of unity via clear and highly consistent structures, backgrounds, colour palette, navigational tools and tone of voice.
