Stone Family Foundation

Who are they?

The Stone Family Foundation is a venture philanthropist established in 2005 as a UK charitable trust. They focus on funding bold ideas and strong leaders — backing both market-based solutions for safe water internationally and charities supporting young people in the UK. Since the Foundation was established it has provided funds of over £100 million in grants, loans and equity investments.

The Challenge

Feelingpeaky were approached by the Stone Family Foundation (SFF) to design and develop a new website for the Foundation.

Their existing website was felt to look very ‘NGOish’ and the SFF were looking to present themselves in a more professional and contemporary way. An improved website design and usability was required to shine a light on the philanthropy of SFF in their 20th anniversary year and beyond.

Information on the website needed to be structured to help audiences find what they are looking for in an efficient way. There was a problem in the presentation of the two strands of SFF – that being market-based solutions for safe water internationally and charities supporting young people in the UK. We must clearly signpost visitors to the right section of the website and communicate the purpose, strategy, approach and impact of each strand.

Additionally the website content required a full review – it was felt the website was too wordy and lacked suitably compelling content.

The Solution

We focused the design of the website to ensure that the content was structured in a logical way to meet audience information needs and the organisation objectives. The two areas of funding are clearly communicated in a logical and informative manner and are articulated in a clear and motivating way. Tone of voice is consistent and in-line with the brand. The content answers organisation objectives, meets users’ aims and the website is search engine friendly.

Key objectives were achieved in the following ways:

• Visitors are provided with easily accessible and useful information about the Stone Family Foundation.

• Funding priorities are presented clearly and in a way that is logical and informative along with case studies evidencing the historical funding of projects.

• The website engages with the various target audiences and organisations that come looking at the Stone Family Foundation.

• The responsive website presents attractively and functionally to users independent of the device they arrive at the website on – eg. mobile, tablet or desktop.

• The website is accessible for people with disabilities.

• The website is built using a CMS with ongoing support.

“A big thank you to all of you who contributed to the creation of our great new website. To Chris and Fran at Feelingpeaky, with special thanks for your patience. The project took far longer than planned and involved far, far more work than we had envisaged but all’s well that ends well. We are delighted with the result. ”
