The Wolfson Foundation

Who are they?

The Wolfson Foundation is an independent charity that awards grants to support and promote excellence in the fields of science, health, education and the arts & humanities. Funds are generated through an endowment.

The Challenge

The design of the incumbent Wolfson Foundation website was dated, not in line with their new branding and there was a lack of representation of the diversity of the awards given out and the different organisations that receive Wolfson funding.

With the sheer volume of content the site had become unwieldy, with content hard to find and audiences overwhelmed with many internal links and sub menus.

The website was also not fully responsive across mobile, tablet and desktop.

Staff at Wolfson have had minimal training on their current CMS and wanted a robust system that would be easy to use and well supported.

The Solution

The website design stemmed from the new Wolfson Foundation branding and colour schemes and is supported with real images from projects their grants have supported. The responsive website presents attractively to users independent of the device they arrive at the website on.

Needing to ensure that content is structured in a logical way to meet audience information needs and the organisations objectives; a large amount of time was invested into the UX design.

Propositions and key messages are articulated in a clear and motivating way. Tone of voice is consistent and in-line with the brand. Content answers organisation objectives, meets users’ aims and is search engine friendly.

The quick view of ‘need to know’ means potential applicants are provided with easily accessible and useful information so they can quickly decide whether the Wolfson Foundation are likely to consider their application.

Accessibility was implemented as close to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 as possible to ensure the the website is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.
